FedEx has unveiled a retro-painted Boeing 777 freighter

FedEx has unveiled a retro-painted Boeing 777 freighter honoring late founder Fred Smith, featuring the purple and orange colors of the original Federal Express from the 1970s.

The jet made a symbolic landing in Memphis as Flight 1944, marking Smith’s birth year, and was among the first arrivals at the airport recently renamed in his honor. The aircraft, named “Rosie” after Smith’s granddaughter, continues FedEx’s tradition of naming planes after employees’ children.

Smith, a Marine veteran and two-time Vietnam veteran, founded Federal Express in Memphis in 1971. The company began operations in 1973 with just 186 packages. Today, FedEx is a global delivery giant, with Memphis still serving as one of the world’s busiest cargo hubs.
